Scope and content note

This collection contains letters written during World War II from John Dawson, Company F, 2nd Platoon, 300th Infantry, to his wife Anne Dawson. The Dawsons lived in Philadelphia, but the couple eventually moved to Broomall. The letters, which are cordial and general in nature, have been bundled according to dates, and they originated from various bases, including Camp McCain, Mississippi; Camp Haan, California; and Fort George G. Meade, Maryland. By late July 1944, the letters indicate that he has been sent to England where he arrives by 7 August 1944. A letter dated 12 August 1944 is written from "Somewhere in France." Later letters indicate he was wounded in France on 29 August 1944 when hit by shrapnel. He is back in England for recovery as indicated by the letters found in Folder 14 dated August-October 1944.
