Abstract
The bulk of the collection consists of letters between Garnier, in Springfield, Pennsylvania, and friends elsewhere in the United States and in France. Also included are receipts for the sale of lots of slaves signed by Garnier as agent. The letter discuss personal matters, business, the American Revolution, slaves and freed slaves, life in the United States, and French-English antagonism in America. This collection also includes a folder of photocopies of card catalog cards and Garnier's original documents.

The M. Garnier papers are part of the "small collections" grouping at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania. These small collections are boxed and numbered in a continuous run. The two folders of M. Garnier's papers are found in Box 8 of the small collections.
