Scope and Contents note

This collection contains a miscellaneous assortment of records, the bulk of which date from the late 1750s to the 1880s, from several Pennsylvania counties: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Bedford, Berks, Bucks, Carbon, Centre, Clearfield, Crawford, Cumberland, Dauphin, Delaware, Fayette, Franklin, Lancaster, Lehigh, Lebanon, Lycoming, Luzerne, Mifflin, Monroe, Montgomery, McKean, Northumberland, Perry, Philadelphia, Snyder, Susquehanna, Tioga, Washington, Wayne, and Westmoreland. The amount of records pertaining to each county varies from single documents to several folders worth, and they are primarily official papers, such as deeds, surveys, and patents. However, there are scattered personal papers and correpondence from county residents.

A few highlights from the collection include a narrative by C. Van Horn describing the Connecticut invasion, pioneering, colonial warfare, and incidents during the Revolution, 1772-1837, in Crawford County; a history of Monroe County and of the Indian Walk, 1746; a history of Luzerne County, 1793-1823; a history of Lehigh County townships, n.d., and the journal, 1757, of Lieutenant A. Engel, stationed at Leckley Township; and letters and accounts of David Franks, Bernard Gratz, L. Andrew Levy, Joseph Simon, and others, of Lancaster, relating to provisioning of British and American soldiers and prisoners during the Revolution, 1777-1778. There are also indentures, court records of indictments, penal records, jury lists, muster rolls, among other items.
