Scope and content note
According to what's written in this notebook, it was created by W. E. Shaw, a student of the Philadelphia Dental College, class of 1897. The name "Dr. E. E. Jordan" is also inscribed inside the front cover along with a table of contents. The notebook is divided into five named sections: Materia medica, Physiology, Operative dentistry, Plastics, and Anaesthesia. Shaw's copious handwritten notes populate each section, though there are occasional blank pages between each. The first two sections contain general pharmacological and biological notes, while the last three focus on dentistry, dental procedures, and medical problems. At the end of the last section is a list of over 200 questions with answers.
