Conversely, the Republican Party was certain that their vibrant platform would easily defeat Fillmore's ambiguity and the Democrat?s sanction of slavery. The "balls" each represent a different northern state, gaining momentum enough to crush "border ruffianism" and violence in Kansas, among many other sectional issues pervading the campaign.
