Scope and content note

In 1969, David Voellinger, a Roman Catholic priest, Oblate of St. Francis DeSales from Philadelphia, was called to serve as chaplain to the royal family of Monaco. He provided religious counsel for the family – Prince Rainier III, Princess Grace, and their three children, Caroline, Albert, and Stephanie – for two years, from July 1969 to July 1971. After his tenure was complete, he maintained, and continues to maintain contact with the family through letters and cards, which make up the majority of this collection. Additionally, there is a disbound scrapbook with a few pages of candid photographs of Voellinger with the family, photographs of just the family, ephemera, and correspondence. Other items include a small number of photographs, a miniature sheet in an original enclosure of a stamp issued to commemorate Prince Albert’s 21st birthday in 1979, related correspondence, and programs.
