Below is the passport of the wife and children of Friedrich Hintz, issued on 6 June 1856.  This passport--valid for one year--allowed Marie Hintz (nee Stange, born in Schippenbeil on 11 July 1814) and her three children, Johanna Emilie (nine years old), Wilhelmina Bertha (seven years old), and Emma Louise Betty (five years old), to travel from Hamburg to Boston.  Friedrich Hintz, husband of Marie, had immigrated to Massachusetts three years earlier from their home in Koenigsberg.  Hintz Family Collection, Balch Institute Archives
